AVIATION MEDICALS
BE PREPARED FOR YOUR MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Aviation medicals can be time consuming frustrating and expensive; to try and make the process more efficient please read on.
There are several steps to the medical certification process. Being prepared for your examination is the first step in process and can help save time by reducing the need for potential follow up activity. Please read the steps required for medical certification on the CASA website.
From the 21st of March 2016, all aviation medicals will need to be completed online by pilots and air traffic controllers (ATCs). Pilots and ATCs with a medical due from this date will receive an email notification which will direct them to confirm personal details and update their medical history in MRS. For more information on the Medical Records System Online (MRS) please refer to the CASA website.
Should you require an ECG you will have it done on the day of your medical at Stratford Medical Centre.
If you need a blood test, you can collect the form anytime, or collect on the day.
PLEASE DO NOT DRINK COFFEE OR TEA FOR SOME SIX HOURS BEFORE COMING IN LET US KNOW SO WE CAN BOOK IT IN.
You will be required to give a urine sample for analysis; this is routine testing for diabetes and kidney disease.
PLEASE DO NOT UNDERTAKE ANY VIGOROUS EXERCISE IN THE 24 HOURS BEFORE YOUR MEDICAL AS THIS CAN LEAD TO A FALSE POSITIVE TEST.
If you have some medical problems from the past that need to be followed up with each medical please send the relevant information prior to the day of your medical.
The cost of the medical is currently $150 + any tests required.
There is also a Civil Aviation Safety Authority cost for processing. For all information relating to payments, refer to the CASA fee information. It is preferable that all payments to CASA are made using CASA’s online payment facility prior to coming in for your medical.
