Mel Dunstan – Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner

Stratford Medical Centre has gained the skills of a Nurse Practitioner with a unique and highly advanced nursing skill set.

Nurse practitioners are the most senior clinical nurses involved in diagnosing and treating patient illnesses.

Mel Dunstan, a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner, works alongside Stratford Medical Centre’s doctors and health care professionals, to assess, diagnose, treat and manage patient illnesses.

Like a doctor, nurse practitioners are trained to evaluate patients, diagnose illness and prescribe medications to patients.

While NPs are not physicians, they undergo rigorous training and credentialing while focussing on a holistic approach to health care.

A career in healthcare is a commitment to preventing disease, promoting well-being and doing no harm; both nurse practitioners and medical doctors embrace the same ethos of service, knowledge, teamwork, flexibility, compassion and safety.

Mel has extensive qualifications including Nurse Practitioner, Registered Midwife, Child Health Nurse, Diabetes Educator, Cervical Screening and Sexual Health.

She is able to see patients independently of a doctor and can bill Medicare and do scripts and referrals within her scope of practice.

She loves seeing women (especially pregnant or post birth) and children.

Mel is qualified to see complicated patients for case management or extra support or health promotion.

She is available for:

  • Women’s Health checks
  • General health checks
  • Child Health Checks
  • Diabetic reviews
  • Chronic disease care plans
  • General nursing
