Dr. John Buhagiar


John moved from Malta to FNQ in 2007 and is also fluent in both Italian and Maltese, and some Arabic. John has over 20 years of experience, including a long stint in a general practice in Mossman. Having spent 12 years working with Olympic athletes, John has a major interest in the musculoskeletal system, and completed additional training in sports and exercise medicine in the UK.

John is passionate about history, travelling, exercising and adores his two young children.


Dr. Amanda Roberts

B. Soc Sci (Cur), MBBCH and FACRRM

Born and raised in South Africa, Amanda moved to Cairns in 2007. She has worked with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Cairns for many years. Amanda has a special interest in emergency medicine, community services, mental health, acute illness, business and community services… and everything in between. Amanda is the driving force behind Stratford Medical Centre. She is mum to two children, and a multitude of animals.

Dr. Amanda Blinco


Amanda ‘B’ has spent most of her career as a “country GP” including stints as a GP Obstetrician and GP Anaesthetist. She has developed many interests and skills from antenatal, to end-of-life care. Notably she has a special interest in women’s health, including Mirena insertion. She enjoys the variety and personal connections of general practice and is happy being a part of the Stratford community.


Dr. Helen Pedgrift


Helen trained in the UK and qualified as a GP in 2007. Helen moved to Cairns in 2008 and enjoyed working in General Practice and for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Her professional interests include Women’s Health, Child and Adolescent Health, Preventative Health and Palliative Medicine. Helen particularly enjoys the varied and holistic approach and continuity of care that General Practice offers.


Dr. Paul Welsman


Dr Paul enjoys the holistic nature of general practice and is interested in all aspects of family medicine. In particular – Men’s health, Children and Adolescent Health and Skin medicine. Paul is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (specialist GP) and has gained further skills through a Diploma in Child Health. We are very excited to have him with us. Cathmar trained in Scotland before moving to Australia in 1992. She has extensive experience in many aspects of medicine including emergency and rural health, with many years working for the Royal Flying Doctor Service Cairns, prior to opening her own practice in rural Victoria.

Cathmar has a special interest in integrative health focussing on the whole person encompassing body, mind, and spirit as well as all aspects of lifestyle. She combines the best of conventional western medicine with evidence-based complementary medicine and therapies.

Dr. Cathmor Ross


Thuy graduated as a medical doctor with the highest overall rank in her class (1/186) from Can Tho University, Vietnam in 1999. She completed her Master degree in Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University, Thailand in 2003. She was one of the founders of the Vietnamese Family Medicine Association.

Thuy came to Australia in 2006 to commence her PhD on risk factors for cardiovascular disease with the Menzies Research Institute, University of Tasmania. She was ranked highly in the assessment of Overseas Trained Doctors by the Australian Medical Council. She worked at The Royal Hobart Hospital for three years, then undertook registrar training at various GP practices in Tasmania.

Thuy has authored peer-reviewed journal articles internationally, and is a reviewer for 5 International journals. Thuy is a fellow of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (Specialist GP) as well as having a Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health, Professional Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine and Primary Skin Cancer Therapeutics. She particularly has an interest in family planning (including Mirena insertion), and Skin Cancer medicine including excisions, but enjoys all aspects of general practice. Thuy calls Australia home and has become part of the community as a devoted GP.

In her personal life Thuy is a wife, a mother, an animal lover and a keen gardener. She loves exploring nature with her family and getting fit.


Dr Morice emigrated from the United States in 2007 and has been living in Cairns since 2008. He graduated with his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1993 from the University of Arizona and obtained his Specialist in Family Medicine qualifications through the American Board of Family Medicine in 1996.

He later obtained qualifications as a HIV medicine specialist from the American Academy of HIV Medicine and practiced in the field for 12 years before moving to Australia. He is an S100 prescriber for HIV medications in Queensland.

Dr Morice is a well-respected GP within the Cairns LGBTQ community and has a specialty interest in blood-borne disease.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners granted Dr Morice his Australian qualification after emigrating and he continues to practice family medicine in Cairns. He also enjoys his work in adult medicine and palliative care.

Dr Morice speaks Spanish and is happy to consult with members of the community who are also Spanish speakers.

Dr. Jillian Harrington


Jillian finished her university studies at JCU in Townsville in 2008, before moving to Toowoomba for internship and rural South West Queensland to complete her GP training in 2014. She has relocated to Cairns recently and is excited to be joining the Stratford Medical Centre. Jillian enjoys all areas of general practice, but particular Paediatrics, Women’s Health and management of chronic disease. She loves family medicine, and the continuity of care that working in general practice brings. Jillian is also involved in medical education of trainee GP’s through GMT and ACRRM. Outside of work she is passionate about painting, running and spending time with her partner and young Border Collie dog.

Dr. Irene Tjhung


Irene was born in Perth and is a graduate of the University of Western Australia. She has worked in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and the Torres Strait, prior to moving to Cairns in 2015. Irene’s areas of special interests include child & adolescent health, women’s health, Indigenous health, rural and remote medicine, community service and health equity. Irene enjoys the holistic nature of general practice, and the privilege of developing relationships and partnerships with people on their health and well-being journey.


Kate grew up in the Northern Territory and in 2014 she happily returned to the tropics for GP training. She graduated from Flinders University Medical School in 2010 where she learnt the value of community based medicine, then quickly knew she wanted to be a primary health care specialist. Prior to medicine Kate was a Dietitian, attaining her undergraduate degree (Honours in Nutrition), from the University of Sydney in 2004. Kate enjoys working with people in all aspects of care, especially paediatrics, women’s health, pregnancy and lifestyle medicine. She is a keen mountain biker and likes the various challenges of becoming a parent recently.

Billi Foord


Billi has over 20 years of clinical experience in busy acute areas of nursing; in particular Accident and Emergency and Delivery Suite working as part of a multidisciplinary medical team undertaking a variety of roles: as anaesthetic assistant, scout /scrub nurse (operating rooms), team leader and triage in A&E(RPAH) and Delivery Suite(RNS).

Billi is enthusiastic in promoting education in the clinical areas to improve and maintain high quality client service.

Beth Salleras is a Registered Nurse that has been working as a Practice Nurse for many years. She has 2 children and loves to travel. She is originally from country NSW, lived and worked in Sydney, England and central QLD. She loves tropical North Qld, and has spent the last 15 years in the Cairns area.


Kellie Swain

Practice Coordinator

Kellie is our Practice Coordinator and has spent most of her career working in the health sector. Kellie is married with one son and they enjoy spending time camping, fishing and boating. She also enjoys living a healthy lifestyle and keeping fit.


Sarah Sexton

Sarah came with the furniture when Amanda took over the practice and has loved every second of watching the practice burst into life.

After having a double lung transplant in 2013 she has a keen interest in anything medical & loves the learning curve associated with working in the medical field.

Sarah enjoys spending time with her family & friends, fishing, camping, coffee & rescuing dogs.


Fiona Lewis

Fiona is our practice manager here at Stratford and comes with many years of experience in general practice both in Queensland and on the west coast. She enjoys the challenges of developing a general practice from infancy to the vibrant community it becomes. When not at Stratford, now that her two children have completed their schooling, she will be found somewhere along a beach, or riding her bike.

We have antenatal and Women’s Health, Palliative care, Sports medicine, Mental Health, Skin medicine, Aviation Medicine, gut and immune system, and more. Our patients might have one primary doctor, and the expertise of the other doctors added in when needed. We work together, using the strengths of each doctor to benefit our clients.
