We are a family practice, not a rapid bulk-billing clinic. Consultations are by appointment, but emergency problems can be seen without appointments and triaged with our nurse. If you have a list of complicated problems, unless forewarned the Doctor may address some issues and ask you to return another day to continue with less urgent concerns. If you think you may need a longer appointment please let the receptionist know at the time of booking. We do not usually provide consultations over the phone, however this is available with certain doctors. Please speak to the Practice Manager.
Appointments for urgent matters are available on the day. Please telephone the surgery and let the receptionist know the nature of the problem so our team can endeavor to fit you in or refer you to the appropriate centre.
We value your time and patience. However due to the nature of general practice, unfortunately delays are inevitable as some patients will present with more complex and time consuming issues that require immediate attention. Please have patience, this may one day be you who requires some extra time.
For urgent calls after hours please call 1300 030 030 to speak to a doctor and arrange a home visit. In the case of a medical emergency call the ambulance on 000.
Home visits may be available for care of the dying, and in other special cases. There may be an out of pocket gap for this special service, as well as for family conferences not covered by Medicare.
Interpreter services are available on request. It is essential that patients requiring an interpreter request a long appointment and let us know when booking so an interpreter can be arranged. Dr. John Buhagiar is fluent in both Italian, Maltese and some Arabic.
As many medications can be potent if taken inappropriately, it is important to have your medications regularly reviewed by your Doctor. If we have never prescribed the medication for you before, or it has been greater than 3 months since your last prescription, you will require a consult to obtain a prescription. There is a small charge to cover the doctor reviewing your file, medications and checking results prior to issuing your script.
We encourage our patients to take responsibility to work with us to maintain and look after their health and test results. For your confidentiality receptionists cannot give any results over the desk or phone. Your call may be put through to the nurse to discuss results if there is any concern, however we usually prefer to see you to discuss as a negative result may still need follow up.
We recommend booking a review consultation, or at least calling the surgery after 1pm, one week after your tests to ensure the results have been received by the Doctor and you can be informed of the action needed.
We value your feedback so please feel free to place any suggestions/complaints in our suggestion box at the reception. If you have any complaints regarding the service we provide please feel free to speak to our Practice Manager or write a letter outlining your concerns.
If you feel we have not dealt appropriately with your concerns, then you can contact Health Services Commissioner on: Ph: 1800136066 Fax: 03 9655 5219
